Volunteer to Support Our Bike Month Ride Series
Move Minnesota is looking for volunteers to help with our group bike rides for Bike Month this May. Choose to volunteer at one or more of the rides happening every week throughout the month. Sign up below!
Volunteers will assist in greeting riders and gathering ride waivers. Depending on the route, volunteers may assist in safely navigating on-street riding and setting a leisurely pace. Infrequently, volunteers may assist in changing a tire or on-route maintenance as necessary.
We’re specifically looking for ride volunteers with:
- Ability to ride a bike or micro-mobility device, at leisurely speeds in environments that include mostly trails, some lanes, and a few shared lanes.
- Ability to clearly and respectfully communicate with riders of diverse backgrounds, experience, and comfort levels.
- Local knowledge of Saint Paul and Minneapolis, and basic field bike maintenance are pluses but absolutely not required.
Volunteer support is needed at the following Bike Month Rides:
- Bike Month Kickoff with Ice Cream and a Group Ride around Como Lake: Wednesday, May 1. Volunteer Time: 5:30-7:30 PM. Support our Move Minnesota bike ride around Como Park with the Joyful Riders Club to celebrate the start of Bike Month! We’ll meet at Como Lakeside Pavilion in Saint Paul. The group will make a loop around the park, stop in at Conny’s Creamy Cone, and then return to the Pavilion.
- Cosmic Cycles BIPOC Bike Ride to the Planetarium at the Bell Museum: Saturday, May 11. Volunteer Time: 8:30 AM – 12:00 PM. Help out with our leisurely group ride to the Bell Museum for the planetarium show “Minnesota Night Skies.” Tickets provided for ride volunteers–please sign up in advance! The Black, Indigenous, and people of color ride group will start and end at Hampden Park in Saint Paul. The route is 3 miles each way.
- Celebrate Bike to Work Week with a Group Bike Ride in Downtown Saint Paul: Thursday, May 16. Volunteer Time: 4:30-6:30 PM. Help us celebrate Bike to Work Week with a casual ride around downtown Saint Paul on the newly completed first phase of the Kellogg Boulevard Capital City Bikeway! The total route is 3 miles and will highlight great bicycle infrastructure being developed downtown. We’ll start out from the front steps of the Union Depot and end with a social gathering after the ride. This ride is also part of our 2024 Saint Paul Bike Ride Series!
- Sweets & Treats FTW Group Bike Ride: Wednesday, May 22. Volunteer Time: 5:30-8:00 PM. Volunteer with Move Minnesota for an FTW-only (femme, trans, women only) ride this Bike Month! We’ll meet at Father Hennepin Bluff Park and set off across downtown Minneapolis and along the river. Our group will make stops for ice cream and surprise treats along the way, ending at Malcolm Yards! This will be a relaxed-pace ride of 10-12 miles.
