Take Action to Support a Permanent B Line Bus Lane in Saint Paul

It’s 5 p.m. on a weekday in Saint Paul and cars stretch along Marshall Avenue for blocks. But instead of competing with the rush hour traffic, riders of the METRO B Line cruise past in a dedicated red lane. This is what better bus service looks like—and, with your support, it could become permanent.

For years, Move Minnesota has been working to make sure the metro’s public transit system provides faster, more reliable service. So a key aspect of our Boost the Bus campaign has been advocating for more dedicated lanes, which ensure buses—and bus riders!—don’t waste time stuck in car traffic. Often painted onto the street, these simple markings provide designated space for your bus to move efficiently along its route and get you to your destination more quickly.

In June 2025, we celebrated the opening of the METRO B Line, a bus rapid transit route with dedicated lanes along much of its route in Minneapolis—and a short stretch in Saint Paul. Now, Metro Transit, the City of Saint Paul, and Ramsey County are considering making the dedicated bus lane on Marshall between Wilder and Cretin avenues permanent—and they need to hear from you!

Take the quick survey by March 20 to voice your support for keeping a permanent bus lane on Marshall Avenue in Saint Paul! Make sure leaders know that the bus lane has made travel times more reliable, helping riders get to their destinations faster and on time.

To meet the needs of our daily lives, people need quick and reliable transportation options. According to a poll we conducted last year, when Twin Cities residents choose how to get around, convenience (58%), reliability (40%), and travel time (39%) are among the most important factors.

So it’s not surprising that bus rapid transit routes—that often feature dedicated lanes—are seeing the biggest jumps in ridership. For instance, the B Line saw one of the largest ridership increases in the system, with 212,000 more rides in 2025, compared to 2024.

“I love the B Line because it’s the ideal transit route; so many different destinations,” says Saint Paul resident, Christopher W. “The bus lane is an absolute gamechanger. All the ways a bus lane can create a faster and more reliable journey are put on display on this stretch. I would love for Wilder to Cretin to be the example that leads to more bus lanes along our bus routes all throughout Saint Paul!”

Make your voice heard! Take action today to tell leaders you want the dedicated bus lanes between Wilder and Cretin avenues to become permanent—so riders can continue to enjoy fast, reliable service through Minneapolis and Saint Paul!
