Test Closures Show Vision of Saint Paul Grand Round
If you’re excited about the Saint Paul Grand Round and better bike connections to the East Side, you’ll be happy to know about the test closures of Johnson Parkway underway this winter.
In 2020, the City of Saint Paul will build a new trail along Johnson Parkway from Burns Avenue to Phalen Boulevard. This is a main section of the Saint Paul Grand Round and its East Side connector. To prepare for that project, the City is counting vehicles, bicycles, and pedestrians to better understand how the parkway functions today. Seven intersections along this stretch are closed until December 6 to simulate how future trail improvements would impact the street network.
We hear often from residents who want more bike connections, not just for hardcore commuters, but connections that work for families and people of all different biking abilities. Eventually making these Johnson Parkway closures permanent, will make for a more complete, more inclusive Saint Paul Grand Round for all to use and enjoy.
Keep an eye out on the City’s website later in December for announcements on the results of the test closures, and more information about ways to provide feedback on these improvements.
