Salary & Compensation: $105,000-120,000 annual salary. Move Minnesota’s team currently works in person from our office two partial days per week to foster staff-wide connection and collaboration. The remaining work is done remotely, during optional office hours, or out in the community. All Move Minnesota employees are required to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19.

Position Summary
Move Minnesota is seeking a collaborative and motivated leader to serve as the organization’s next Executive Director. This position will work with the Board of Directors to provide visionary leadership and strategic direction to the organization. The Executive Director will lead a staff of 13, foster external relationships, lead fundraising efforts, advocate for policies and funding that will improve transit, bicycling, walking, and rolling, and serve as Move Minnesota’s primary spokesperson. The Executive Director will actively support the organization’s day-to-day activities and help to ensure its financial stability. This role requires a dynamic individual who can inspire stakeholders, manage complex relationships, and drive the organization’s mission forward. The Executive Director also oversees Move Minnesota Action, the 501(c)4 subsidiary of Move Minnesota.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Strategic vision and organizational leadership
- In conjunction with the Board of Directors and staff, develops and implements a vision and strategic plan to guide the organization.
- Fosters a mission-driven and strategic thinking environment, emphasizing racial equity work and team collaboration.
- Oversees organizational structure, work plans, and long-term planning
- Develops and manages organizational budgets to ensure Move Minnesota’s financial health and stability.
Advocacy, Policy, and Education
- Ensures the organization develops and champions a clear and compelling vision for transforming our transportation system. Advances public transit, bicycling, walking, and rolling as critical to climate action, racial justice, and social justice.
- Cultivates and maintains strategic partnerships with key stakeholders, including government officials, community organizations, and other advocacy groups.
- Advocates for Move Minnesota’s positions on transportation funding, legislation, policies, and infrastructure.
Fundraising
- Uses the organization’s values-based narrative to inspire funders, donors, partners, advocates, and decision-makers to invest in Move Minnesota’s vision for change.
- In partnership with staff, executes a comprehensive fundraising strategy to secure financial resources from diverse sources.
- Maintains positive relationships with existing funders and cultivates relationships with potential funders.
General Operations
- Advances the organization’s continued work to integrate racial justice frameworks into its operations and programming.
- Adheres to organizational values: equity, integrity, elevating voices, excellence, transparency, and stewardship.
Position Qualifications
- Demonstrated commitment to cultural competency, including experience working effectively with people of diverse backgrounds, including but not limited to race, ethnicity, gender, nationality, sexual orientation, religion, language, ability, age, and socioeconomic status.
- Knowledge of walking, biking, rolling, transit, and shared mobility as modes of transportation, and sensitivity to the way transportation issues affect people’s lives and communities.
- Commitment to progressive causes impacted by transportation such as climate action, racial justice, disability justice, children and education, housing, health, and more.
- Proven track record of leading successful teams and building relationships with key partners, decision makers, and institutional funders.
- Adept at building consensus around complex issues with a variety of internal and external stakeholders to address racial and climate justice.
- Experience developing and effectively managing a budget of $1 million or greater.
- Demonstrated success in advocacy, fundraising and resource development.
- 9+ years of leadership-level work preferred, ideally in an organization focused on transportation
Location
This position is housed at the Move Minnesota office in Saint Paul, Minnesota. The office is one block from the METRO Green Line’s Raymond Ave Station and easy to reach on Metro Transit bus routes 16, 63, 67, and 87. Indoor bike parking and a private changing room are available. The building where our office is located has one floor (no stairs) and multi-stall restrooms.
