New Name, Big Vision: TLC & Smart Trips Are Now Move Minnesota!
Transit for Livable Communities and St. Paul Smart Trips officially announced our merged organization’s new name—Move Minnesota— with a big party in Saint Paul on June 4.
The moment was a long time coming. After merging in 2017, we knew we would need a new name that spoke to our bold vision for the future. Since then, we’ve done a lot of strategic planning and a lot of listening. We are so appreciative of everyone who shared their hopes and thoughts along the way.
Along with our new name, we are launching a new mission: to lead the movement for an equitable transportation system in Minnesota that puts people first.
Move Minnesota is committed to building a big, people-powered movement to expand transit, walking rolling, biking, and shared options because that’s what it will take to break down decades of bias and cars-only culture and create a better future.
We are dedicated to this work because we believe everyone should be able to reach the important places in their lives. We want to live in a Minnesota where the air is clean, our families are healthy, and our neighborhoods are thriving. A Minnesota that feels connected, because it is.
We want this not just for some, but for all of us: Minnesotans of every income level, of every race and ethnic background, every age, ability, and gender.
With a focus on advocacy, education, and community engagement, we are building on the legacy of over 20 years of progress accomplished under the names St. Paul Smart Trips and Transit for Livable Communities. We honor that strong foundation, and our deep roots in Saint Paul and Minneapolis, with this next exciting chapter. We are proud to continue serving as the city of Saint Paul’s designated Transportation Management Organization, making change and connecting people to sustainable options right here in our capital city, as we also continue to grow our impact across the region and state.
We are so thankful for everyone who has shared their time, talents, dollars, and voice to make this transformation possible. And we are humbled by everyone who was able to celebrate with us in person. This movement starts with YOU: our supporters, our partners, our allies, our fellow Minnesotans.
